Brad Zoern, a native of Windsor, attended the Sandwich Secondary School there. Zoern was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on June 19, 1970. Initially, Zoern was interested in taking up music as his profession but later decided to play with the sounds and thus became a sound editor.
Brad Zoern won his first Emmy award as a freelance sound editor for the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys in 2012 along with Kevin Costner and Tom Berenger. In an interview, Zoern said that if the audience could feel the gunfights for real, then his job as a sound editor is done. Zoern stated that he used 16 tracks to make one gunshot at times, in order to give the audience the real feel of how a gunshot actually sounds.
Zoern has worked on many projects like Dark Matter, The Conjuring 2, Requiem for a Dream, The shape of water, Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, etc. as a sound editor and finally he bagged a nomination for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing in the Oscar 2018 for the movie The Shape of Water.

Zoern’s work has been nominated for several awards, but he wasn’t lucky enough to take all the awards home. Since 2012, he has been nominated in the Primetime Emmy Awards, BAFTA Awards, Canadian Screen Awards, Genie Awards, Cinema Audio Society, USA, Gemini Awards, Gold Derby Awards, Hollywood Post Alliance, US, and Online Film & Television Association.
Though his nomination list is a long one, Zoern actually won three times. First, the Genie Awards for the overall sound in 2001, the second one at the Emmys 2012, and then the C.A.S. Award in 2013 for the miniseries.
Zoern, the alumni of the Sheridan’s, has made the Sheridan Media Arts proud by bagging a nomination at the Oscars 2018.
