Who is Aleksandr Bolshunov?

Alexander Aleksandrovich Bolshunov is a Russian skier who competes in Cross-country skiing internationally representing the Russian National Team. He was born in 1996 in Sevsky district in Russia. His height is six feet tall which gives him long legs and a long stride, both crucial for competition. He competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championship 2017 in Lahti, Finland as well as the 2018 Winter Olympic games. He won a silver medal in the 50 kilometer classic at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang and he also won a bronze medal in cross-country skiing at the games as well. He won three silver medals and one bronze medal in cross-country skiing at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang but he is also a student studying at Penza State University, Russian Federation. He trained in the Club Dynamo in the Tyumen Regional Centre of Sports Preparation in Russia under Coach Yury Borodavko. He made his World Cup Debut in 2017 in Drammen, Norway. He has received the title of Master of Sport of International Class for the Russian Federation. In the recent events at the 2018 Pyeongchang games, Bolshunov of OAR was seen reacting angrily to winning silver after struggling to keep pace with Finland’s Iivo Niskanen in the men’s 50km mass start classic cross-country ski race in Pyeongchang. He passed him shortly afterwards but later Niskanen with a fresh dig, swept past him winning a gold medal. Hailing from the сity of Bryansk, at the Russian border with Belarus and Ukraine, Bolshunov was initially coached by his father. He now calls the oilmen city of Tyumen home where he trains & competes at the ultra-modern “Perl of Siberia” ski & biathlon stadium. The stadium is arguably the Russia’s best skiing venue built to rival the likes of Falun, Holmenkollen and Trentino. His silver medal was his fourth medal of the games – having won two silvers in the team sprint and 4×10 relay, and bronze in the individual sprint – while competitor Andrey Larkov raced ahead of the chasing pack to finish third. Aleksandr is incredibly universal – while he’s Klaebo’s biggest challenger in sprints, he’s also a reigning Russia’s champion in 50k. He is definitely a feather in the crown of the Russian National Team.
