Who is Zazie Beetz?

‘Atlanta’ and ‘Wolves’

Zazie Beetz was born on June 1st, 1991. She is a German-American actress best known for her role of Vanessa on ‘Atlanta’ though she also had another role in a film called ‘Wolves.’ In 2016, Beetz also appeared in the Netflix anthology series ‘Easy,’ a comedy that was based in Chicago. ‘Easy’ explores relationships between couples including a married couple and a romance between two women. Beetz has been cast as the Marvel Comics character Neena Thurman / Domino in ‘Deadpool 2’ which will be release in May of this year. Beetz was born in Berlin, Germany where her father was a cabinetmaker. Her mother is an African-American social worker which means that Beetz possesses both German and U.S. citizenship. She started performing in community theaters and on local stages when she was a young girl, and she found her joy in grade school while acting as she grew up. She was raised in uptown Manhattan, where she would speak both German and English with her family at home. She attended school at Muscota New School, the Harlem School of the Arts and LaGuardia Arts High school where she studied acting. Upon graduation from high school she enrolled at Skidmore College where she received a B.A. in French. Beetz currently resides in Harlem, where she’s been working on various New York-based films but she flies back and forth between Berlin and Manhattan. “When the Berlin Wall came down, my dad left to visit the U.S. He met my mom at this summer camp where they were both working, so I grew up between Washington Heights and Germany speaking two languages,” said Beetz in an interview about her childhood. Once Beetz was cast in plays at her N.Y.C. elementary school, including ‘Guys and Dolls’ and ‘The Music Man.’ After that she developed a love for acting and it led her to LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. “My entire career is focused on trying to replicate those experiences. I was enamored with the beauty of performing.” After graduating from Skidmore College with a degree in French, Beetz began auditioning and quickly got the role of Van in Donald Glover’s Emmy-winning FX series, ‘Atlanta’. “Seventy-five percent of the show is based off experiences that happened to Donald or his siblings. It’s a strange little world that either makes you laugh or cry, but has taken off in a way nobody expected.” She said in the interview regarding her initial career. In May, Beetz will be seen as Domino in the ‘Deadpool’ sequel opposite Ryan Reynolds named, ‘Deadpool 2’. “I got the part off my chemistry read with Ryan. The stuff he comes up with on set—he’s made for this role! I play a marksman, and trained four hours a day. I don’t know how people say exercising is addictive. When I was done, I was done.”
. Beetz also acted in the movie, ‘Geostorm,’ a 2017 American disaster film co-written, produced, and directed by Dean Devlin. ‘Geostorm’ was Devlin’s debut as a feature film director. Beetz was also seen in the 2016 movie, ‘Wolves’ where she played the part of Victoria. ‘Wolves’ was an American drama film written and directed by Bart Freundlich. Beetz has also done noteworthy work in the 2016 TV Series, ‘Easy,’ a series about intertwined groups of friends in Chicago who fumble through the modern maze of love, sex, technology and culture.

An Interview with the talented actress

Zazie Beetz shot to fame and recognition with her character of Van on the FX comedy series, ‘Atlanta’. Although she appreciates the fame and name, she does miss living like a normal person. In an upclose and personal interview with the bubbly actress, we got a sneak peak into her life, her views and her forthcoming movies. “I love to dance at Afropunk and express myself and then I saw people whipping out their phones to take pictures of me,” “It was the first time I felt like I have to dampen myself so I don’t feel so exposed,” she says of the encounter, which happened at the Atlanta event. “Now my dancing will be scrutinized online or just interrupted and that’s something I have to get used to. Another time, my boyfriend and I were having a fight outside and it wasn’t a big deal, just an emotional discussion. And a fan came and interrupted to take a selfie. But you could see that we were in a deep discussion but the person couldn’t accept that it wasn’t a good time.” She said in a slight bit of frustration, adding, “It just makes me worry about how I have to modify my life in the future in a way that I haven’t had to before now.” “I worry about not being able to be myself day to day,” Beetz says. “But I know people way more famous than me who have been able to do that. I guess I just don’t know what to anticipate.” While we do understand and sympathize with her loss of privacy, we would like to make the point that stardom has just kissed this upcoming actress and that she is going to get even more attention in the very near future. She’ll also gain more exposure as the character Domino when the highly-anticipated Marvel Comics sequel ‘Deadpool 2’ arrives in theaters in May.
