He first rode on a mini snowboard which his father bought from a sports shop in Whistler, BC, Canada. There was an 80 centimeter board put on as display but was never intended for use. Needing a top 20 result at a World Cup event in Canada to secure his spot for Vancouver, he pulled off the best result of his career until then and managed to finish 15th, thereby qualifying for Australia’s Olympic team. His coach at the time Ben Bright said the effort was phenomenal. “He needed this one result in 48 hours and we decided to seize the moment. He packed his bags, flew out the next morning and got the result. I don’t know anyone else that could have done it.” At young age of 15, he became the youngest male athlete to represent Australia at the Olympic Winter Games when he competed at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
