Bill Skarsgård’s Father: Stellan Skarsgård and His Linage
While there is hardly a more well-known family name in Hollywood than that of Skywalker, in our own galaxy, the family trees of some of the most well-respected actors grow deep and long throughout the entertainment world. Stellan Skarsgård, a man who’s acting resume stacks up against any other A-list celebrity, is no exception to this. With sons Alexander, Gustaf and Bill now stepping out of their father’s shadow to continue casting their own, Stellan’s is one that is hard to forget.
The Age of an Actor
From well-known projects, the less obscure Stellan Skarsgård’s credited history as an actor dates back to 1968 with his first project “Bombi Bitt och jag”, a Swedish TV series with Skarsgård in the lead roll at the age of 17. Continuing to work in film and television in his native homeland of Sweden, it was in 1985 that Stellan took up his roll in an American film as a mentally-disturbed farmhand on the run from a bounty hunter in “Noon Wine”. From there, the list has only grown. While actively working on both platforms, of American and Swedish cinema, Skarsgård has maintained his presence as an actor on both sides of the globe. Some of Stellan’s more notable appearances come from the films such as “Breaking the Waves”, “The Hunt for Red October”, “Good Will Hunting”, 2004’s “King Arthur”, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, “Mamma Mia!”, “Angels and Demons” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dr. Erik Selvig in the Thor and The Avengers films. With over 100 movie credits, 25 television appearances and 7 acting awards, Stellan’s reputation is one accompanied by notoriety and respect within the industry. The actor’s current net worth is currently estimated at $40 million.
The Skarsgård Family Tree
The oldest of Stellan’s children, Alexander, began his acting career at the young age of 7 in 1983. Six years later, in 1989 and at the age of 13, Alexander landed the lead roll in “Hunden som log (The Dog That Smiled)” quickly gaining him notoriety in his homeland of Sweden. Since that time, with a career that continues to grow and expand, Alexander has found himself actively working in American cinema with notable performances and roles under his belt. He is best known for the HBO series “True Blood” and “Big Little Lies.” Alexander is also recognizable in the recent film “Tarzan” with 6 additional projects under development.
Stellan’s 2nd son, born in 1980, Gustaf tends to encompass the identity of the middle child between his older brother Alexander and younger brother Bill in terms of notoriety and fame. With Best Lead and Supporting Actor awards since first beginning his career in 1989, Gustaf is most well-known for his role of Floki on “Vikings” (Stellan, incidentally also known for playing a Viking in the 2004 adaptation of King Arthur). With additional projects in the works, such as an appearance in the next season of HBO’s hit “Westworld”, Gustaf continues to follow in his father Stellan’s footsteps and continues the legacy of the Skarsgård name.
Born in 1990, Bill Skarsgård is Stellan’s 4th child and the one currently making the biggest splash in Hollywood. While admitting breaking out from under his father’s shadow to become an actor himself, Bill’s quickly increasing fame is something he might soon find hard to ignore. In 2013, after beginning his career like the rest of his family member’s in Sweden cinema and as a model, Bill landed one of the lead roles on Netflix’s “Hemlock Grove”. Since then, however, taking up the mantle as Pennywise the Dancing Clown from the incredibly successful horror movie “It”, Bill was quickly launched into stardom and notoriety. Quickly becoming a well-known name and with multiple forthcoming projects. Bill may just eclipse his brother’s and father’s shadows sooner rather than later.
On the Horizon
At the age of 66, Stellan Skarsgård has shown no signs of slowing down his acting career. While his net worth is estimated at over $40 million, and over 100 credited performances to his name, one can tell that Skarsgård simply loves what he does. With often being looked at in American cinema as one of those recognizable yet unnamed faces, Stellan has often found himself in smaller independent films all the way up the movie food chain to some of the biggest -Marvel’s Cinematic Universe in Thor and The Avengers films. Some of Stellan’s upcoming projects take him back to roles he first took up such as Bill in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” to new exciting ones in “The Painted Bird” and “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”. While his children will continue to carry on his name and legacy, Stellan has laid the groundwork for what may become one of the most well-known family dynasties in Hollywood for years to come.
