Steve Bunin’s birth, growing and learning years
Steve Bunin was born on 20 February 1974 in Seattle, WA, the USA. There is not much revealed on the internet about his parents and siblings if any. He had a keen interest in journalism and broadcasting from a very young age. He is of Jewish ethnic group. He had once said in an interview:
“It was just my lifelong dream to be a sportscaster from when I was 12 years old. I realized quickly as a young Jewish kid it just wasn’t going to happen as a pro athlete. So, this was a great way to stay in sports.”
He completed his high school from Mercer Island High School in 1992.
He then joined Syracuse University and earned a B.Sc. degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1996. At Syracuse, he was with the Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. He also worked with the campus TV studio called UUTV (currently named Citrus TV). He thus gained experience in this field even before he started his career officially.
Steve Bunin’s on-air career
Steve started his career with the WTVH-TV in Syracuse, NY (1995-1996). He had worked with David Muir at that time. He then switched to WICZ-TV in Binghamton, NY (1997). From 1998 to 2000, Steve was with the KNAZ-TV in Flagstaff, Arizona. He served the WLAJ-TV in Lansing, Michigan from 2000-2001. He was the sports anchor/director at WOTV-TV in Battle Creek, Michigan from 2002 to 2003.
He was named the Best TV Sportscaster in 1998 by the Arizona Associated Press. He got an award for his notable sports coverage. He was the recipient of the Best TV Sportscast award in 2000 by the Michigan Associated Press.
Steve then joined ESPN in 2003. He hosted a variety of shows at ESPN such as Outside the Lines, College Football Live and Sportscenter. He was also a host for the Baseball Tonight, Sports Reporter, ESPN Radio and the NFL Live. He also hosted several pro-sports events at ESPN as well as at ESPN2.
In 2020, he got the Game Ball award. In 2012, Steve also bagged the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his voluntary work with at-risk teens. Sports Illustrated also acknowledged his contribution to the broadcast and media world. He continued with this network till 2012.
In 2012, he joined Comcast SportsNet Houston and got 4 Texas Emmy award nominations He won an Emmy award for his interview of runner Carl Lewis. From 2015-12016, he hosted several ESPN Houston shows and radio. Currently, he is the morning news anchor at Seattle NBC station King 5.
