His father has a law firm whereas his mother is a clinical psychologist. He has a sister named Susanne and a brother called Warren. Paul was at the Staples High School and used to be good in extracurricular activities.
He was good at playing vibraphone and was part of a band. He also began writing scripts for short plays while at school. He then joined Hamilton College and graduated in 1989. He majored in Economics. He then moved to the New York City for work.
Paul and his career
Career- wise Paul Lieberstein first took up a job as an auditor at Peat Marwick International and this was for 6 months. He then worked part-time at his father’s law firm as he also started writing on the side. He then shifted base to LA near Hollywood. He and a writing partner took up the job of writing for Clarissa Explains it All. But after the first season, they could not continue since the partners split. He wrote briefly for other projects. His brother-in-law Greg Daniels then asked him to come and work on King of the Hill.
Paul also was the executive producer for The Drew Carey show for 25 of its episodes. He was the supervising producer for some of its episodes as well. He was also the producer on The Newsroom. He also worked for Ghosted. Paul Lieberstein also wrote and directed his first feature film named The Song of Back and Neck in this year and it was selected for the Tribeca Film Festival.
He used to be part of the writer’s room for the US adaptation of The Office. He was also its executive producer. Weight loss was the first episode of the fifth season of the show. He won the Primetime Emmy award for his role of Toby Flenderson in it. Talking of this role he said:
“as an actor, which is just a very small percentage of me, I don’t feel Toby while I’m writing. It’s the hardest of the characters to access.”
Giving an insight into the show’s planning and writing, he said:
“When we are in pre-production, this is the best job in the world. Working 10 to 7, sitting around and brainstorming with the other writers, making things funnier and writing and rewriting scenes—that’s as fun as it gets. Adding acting on top of all that makes for incredibly long, grueling days, sometimes 6 to midnight. But acting has its own rewards. Comedy becomes intensified in short scenes. Doing a scene with Steve Carell, trying to keep up with him, is as tough and fun and weird as any part of the process.”
In December 2018, there were some speculation that the producers and the crew would like to revive the series The Office after its nine season run.
Paul Lieberstein’s net worth has reached $ 14 million.
