The Kilcher family
Shane Kilcher (born 5 May 1971) and his family members became stars when they appeared on Discovery Channel’s reality show ‘Alaska: The Last Frontier’. They are all residents of ‘the end of the road’ or Homer, Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, the USA.
The self-sufficient style of living 11 km away from Homer is shown on the show. The Kilcher and their extended family are all descendants of Swiss immigrants and Alaskan pioneers, Yule, and Ruth Kilcher.
Shane’s maternal grandparents are Arva Carroll and Jay Carroll. His father is Atz Kilcher and mother is called Lenedra Carroll. He was born in Idaho where his parents were college studying. He was raised in Homer. Shane is the brother of Jewel, the Grammy-nominated singer. Shane also has a brother called Atz Lee Kilcher.
Lenedra Carroll is a singer and has divorced her husband Atz Kilcher in 1982. Atz Kilcher has now married Bonnie Kilcher-Dupree, 63. It was believed that they have a son called Nikos Kilcher who is the half-brother of Shane Kilcher.
But it has been reported that Nikos is the child of ATZ Kilcher with another woman called Linda who is now married and has two children. Bonnie’s first husband was bearing the last name of Schwiesow. She has two children with him; son Karl and daughter Hanna.

The Kilcher’s lifestyle, Living and the show
In the extreme cold of Alaska, the family stays without plumbing or modern heating. They subsist on farming, hunting, fishing, and prepare in advance for the long winters including storage of foods and the like.
The film shoot takes place throughout the year. The production crew also lives outside of California. The show had 7 seasons to date. Currently, the show is in season 7. It follows the life of these Alaskans who live in the wilderness on their own and own ample land around. One can see no one for miles on end here. Their method of subsistence, especially in the bitter cold of Alaska, is highlighted in the show. The difficulties the family faces and how they overcome it are also displayed.
Shane Kilcher’s married life and children
Shane Kilcher, 47 married his high school sweetheart Kelli Ware (from Anchorage, Alaska) after dating her for 3 years.
They were married in June 1992. Shane studied at Homer high school and Stellar Secondary School. After marrying Kelli, he financed her studies after the wedding.
She got a nursing degree from Maric College, CA in 1999 and currently works at South Peninsula Hospital in Homer, Alaska. He has four children with his wife Kelli; 3 sons Keena, Jareth, Reid, and daughter Jenna.
Shane Kilcher’s medical emergency and hospitalization
Shane Kilcher is the most loved person on TLF. He sings well and knows all the basic living skills for sustaining himself and his family in below zero temperature of Alaska. He also can make furniture. He loves children. He also earns through the show.
While working on his house in Homer, Shane has suffered a severe accident in the form of a fall on the back. Shane and his wife are active on the social media. She has put up a video on it which said:
“We’re in the hospital in Homer, and Shane fell off a ladder and broke his back. Big, strong Shane. He’s the big, strong one. He’s supposed to do everything.”
“How bad is it? How bad is it going to be in the long run? And what’s that going to mean? … He’s not moving, and if he’s not going to be able to get around, then… He’s supposed to take care of things. He’s doing all the building, so…It’s a lot of unknown and a lot of craziness. Still can’t help but think of all the bad things that could be, you know?”
He had fallen off the ladder and landed on his back thereby fracturing his L2 vertebra. The fracture is a horizontal one and extends two-thirds of the way along the vertebra.
