During his school days in his hometown, he began writing poetry. His friends took him to ‘Mushaira,’ where he started reciting his poetry. In 1999, he moved to Mumbai in search of work after graduating with only Rs. 700 in his pocket. Manoj met Anup Jalota, an Indian singer and musician, who asked him to write a Bhajan for him. Despite the fact that he had never written a Bhajan before, he accepted the project because he needed money. Anup gave him a check for Rs. 3000 after he finished the Bhajan, which was his first salary in Mumbai. In 2004, he was tasked with writing the songs for the film ‘Rang Rasiya,’ but due to scheduling issues, the film was not released until nearly a decade later, in 2014.
