Jorge Lorenzo is a professional Spanish Grand Prix motorcycle road racer who successfully gained fame at a very young age after five world championship victories. Lorenzi went on to win the 2006 and 2007 250cc World Championships. Furthermore, he is also a three-time winner of the Moto GP. He announced his retirement from the sport on November 14, 2019, at the age of 32.

Jorge Lorenzo was born as Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero on May 4, 1987, in Palma, on the Balearic island of Mallorca, Spain. He was born to parents Jose Manuel Lorenzo(father) and Maria Guerrero(mother). As of 2019, his age is 32. Jorge first rode a motorbike at the age of three that his father had built for him.

He later started participating in mini cross races and won his first race in Mallorca at the early age of eight. He won the 1995 Balearic title competing against older rivals.

Moreover, he also won the Island’s mini cross, trial, minimoto and junior motocross titles. In 1997, he started competing in national competitions and won the Aprilia 50cc Cup in 1998.

Lorenzo made his debut in 2002 at the 125cc Spanish Grand Prix on the second qualifying day, on his 15th birthday. In 2003, he got his first victory in the twelfth round of the 125cc championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and finished the championship at 12. At the 250cc World Championship, in 2006, he rode for Aprilia and won his first-ever championship with 8 victories. In 2007, he successfully defended his title with nine wins from nine pole positions and also surpassed rivals Dani Pedrosa and Sito Pons and became the most successful Spanish rider of all time in the intermediate class.

Jorge Lorenzo: Yamaha

In 2007, he signed a two-year deal with Yamaha and became the partner of Italian racer Valentino Rossi for the 2008 MotoGP season. He finished his first-ever Premier Class race in the 2nd position and got his maiden victory in the 3rd round to become the youngest MotoGP rider in the history to finish the first three races on the podium.

After a number of injuries during the remainders of the 2008 season which caused him to miss one race, he still managed to make a good number of podium finishes. In the end, he finished 4th.

In the 2009 season, he had a tough battle with Rossi, who would eventually surpass his four victories with two more to finish first. Till the fifth round, Lorenzo was leading, however, following a few unfortunate crashes and injuries, Vale took a considerable lead. In 2010, he declined a $15 million offer from Ducati. This proved to be the right decision as he became the world champion for the first time that season. In 2011, he settled for 2nd spot after his season run ended with a crash in which he even lost one of his fingers.

Following his return to the track in the following season, he once again came 1st at the 2012 MotoGP Championship title. During the season, he signed a new two-year deal with Yamaha and extended his contract with the company till 2014.

In the 2013 MotoGP Championship, Honda riders Pedrosa and Marquez game his a tough competition. He started with a victory but later fell behind Márquez, who beat him by just 4 points at the end of the season.

The 2015 MotoGP Championship saw him compete with his Yamaha teammate Rossi, who had maintained lead during the first few rounds despite Jorge’s career-best four back-to-back victories. Rossi tried hard to maintain a considerable lead, but Lorenzo won after Rossi had a collision with Honda racer Márquez in the penultimate round.

Jorge Lorenzo: Ducati

In 2017, he signed with Ducati. Ducati did not prove to be a successful move for Lorenzo. In his first season, he suffered the winless season for the first time in the premier class and finished 7th overall. In 2018, he suffered a crash at Mugello, Moreover, another crash eventually broke a bone in his foot which kept him out from the Japanese Moto GP and Australian Grand Prix.

On 6th June 2018, it was announced that Lorenzo would be joining the Repsol Honda Team on a two-year deal. 

Jorge Lorenzo announced his retirement from the sport at a MotoGP press conference on the 14th of November, 2019 at 3:00 pm in Valencia, Spain.
