Norwegian athlete Johannes Høsflot Klæbo was born in 1996 in Byasen IL At nearly six feet tall he has both the height and the strength to cross-country ski. He won three gold medals at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang recently where he made his Olympic debut. He represents Byasen IL. Klaebo competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti, Finland winning a bronze medal at the Men’s sprint competition. On March 17, in Quebec City, Klaebo won his first small crystal globe in the World Cup sprint and also won the Helvetia U23 ranking by winning the end of season mini-tour. He received his first pair of skis from his grandfather when he was just two years old for Christmas. He finally took the family way and became a cross-country skier. Klaebo made his World Cup debut during the 2016-17 season, with an FIS ranking of 115th in sprint points. In the next to last point list which was published for the 2016-17 season, he was number one. In 17 individual event starts he wound up on the podium a total of 12 times. Eight of those podium appearances were for gold medals. At the 2017 World Championships in Lahti, Finland he won his first bronze medal in the sprint. During his final season as a junior, Klaebo managed to win three gold medals at the 2016 Junior World Championships, two of which were won in individual events. His performance landed him a training spot with the Norwegian national sprint team, where he soon realized he was keeping pace with some of the best cross-country skiers in the world. Having just turned 21 last October, Norway’s newest cross-country skiing star still resides at home with his parents and two siblings, when he isn’t on the road competing.
