Conan O’Brien is an American television host, writer, comedian, and producer. He is famous for hosting the late-night talk shows and for hosting ‘Conan’ on the cable channel TBS since 2010.

He was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA and he was raised in an Irish Catholic family. His father’s name is Thomas Francis O’Brien and his mother’s name is Ruth O’Brien. His father was a physician, epidemiologist, and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School while her mother is a retired attorney and former partner at the Boston firm Ropes & Grey. Conan’s parents are of Irish descent.

He said,

“I had genetic testing done… Lisa Kudrow got me to do it ’cause she has that show [Who Do You Think You Are?]… [and I am] 99.8 percent Irish… I think I’m more Irish than people living in Ireland.”

He was a president of The Harvard Lampoon while he attended Harvard University and also worked as a writer for the sketch comedy series ‘Not Necessarily the News’.

He made his way towards Los Angeles after graduating and joined the writing staff of HBO’s ‘Not Necessarily the News’. Along with that, he was also a writer on the short-lived ‘The Wilton North Report’. He worked there for two years and he was hired as a writer by the Saturday Night Live’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels in January 1988. During his period in the SNL, he wrote recurring sketches such as ‘Mr. Short-Term memory’ and ‘The Girl Watchers’.

Conan O Brien Late Night

On April 26, 1993, he was picked as the new host of Late Night and his voice was recorded for ‘Homer Goes to College’. Later, he received a phone call from Polone in which the decision was informed.

Post-production supervisor Michael Mendel recalled,

“He was passed out facedown into this horrible shag carpet. He was just quiet and comatose down there on that carpet,”

“I remember looking at him and saying, ‘Wow. Your life is about to change, in a really dramatic way.’”

The last episode of the show was aired on February 20, 2009. Before leaving the show, he destroyed the set with an axe, and handed out the pieces of the set to the audience. He thanked Lorne Michales, David Letterman, Jay Leno, and O’brien ‘s wife and children for helping him to get that point in his career.

Conan O Brien Tonight Show

Conan negotiated a new contract in 2004 with NBC in which the deal was he would take over The Tonight Show from Jay Leno in 2009. He made his guest appearance on Jay’s final episode of The Tonight Show. He invited Will Ferrell as the first guest on the couch and Pearl Jam appeared as his first musical guest on June 1, 2009.

The final episode was aired featuring guests Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Neil Young and Will Ferrell on January 22, 2010.

Canon O Brian Show

He announced that he will host a new show on cable station TBS on April 12, 2010, as he was just going to start his tour in Eugene, Oregon. The show was debuted on November 8, 2010, and the show is aired Monday through Thursday beginning at 11 pm.

On September 1, 2010, he announced via his Twitter account that the title of his new show on TBS would simply change to be Conan. The show has been extended through 2022.

Conan has been married to Ann ‘Liza’ Powel since 2002. They met the very first time when she appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in an advertising skit involving Foote, Cone & Belding’. She was working there as a senior copywriter. After dating 18 months, the couple tied their knot in 2002 in Conan’s hometown of Seattle.

The couple welcomed a daughter on October 14, 2003, and named her as Neve O’Brien and later welcomed a son, Beckett O’Brien on November 9, 2005.
