Leo Howard is a famous American actor and martial artist. He incorporates his karate skills into his roles and that makes it even more interesting and fun to watch. Starting early in this line, he has gone on to do some great and memorable roles.
Leo Howard’s birth and childhood days
Leo was born on 13 July 1997 in Newport Beach, CA. His childhood was spent in Fallbrook in Northern San Diego. His parents are professional dog breeders and their names are Randye and Todd Howard. They own the Big Bulldog Ranch and their specialization lies in breeding English and French bulldogs. Father is of English descent while his mother has Russian, Austrian and Jewish roots.
If we go through his education, it can be seen that he attended the Tri-City Christian Schools in Vista, CA. He was later mainly home-schooled. He developed an interest in martial arts when he was 3 and his parents enrolled him at the local dojo in Oceanside, CA when he was 4. His school was changed and he started mastering the severe form of the skills along with gymnastics. He was a brilliant student and by age 8 had already won three championships in the field. He is a black belt in Shōrin-ryū.
Leo’s early career and commercials
Leo joined Sideswipe and performed with their team. Talking about it, Leo states:
“I think that’s what really got me addicted to performing. My role changed as I’ve grown as a performer and just plain grown. I was OK, I wasn’t that great at the start, so they would do cool moves and then poof! Here’d be this cute kid running out there to do some karate. But for the last couple of years I’ve been one of the main performers.”
His inspirations were Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris and used to love the way they incorporate martial arts into their acting. He also informed his mother about his ambition to be an actor. During one of the martial arts tournament, Leo was spotted by a person who referred him to a talent agent. He got offers for modeling for print ads and later on TV commercials. Talking about those days, Leo says:
“The commercials were just insane to me. Getting a commercial was like getting a lead role in a movie to me.”
His acting roles
In 2005, Leo got a minor role in USA Network series called Monk. He was a little karate boy dressed in Halloween and had to say the line ‘Maybe he’s afraid of karate’.
