Amanda Freitag is a chef and frequent guest on the Food Network television program. She has judged the TV cooking competition Chopped and co-hosted, with Ty Pennington, on American Diner Revival.
Amanda’s excess weight story
American Chef and Judge on the Food Network cooking shows, Amanda Freitag was very chubby right from her childhood days. She not only harbored an ambition to make it big in the field of kitchen and cuisine but she also had a great appetite. Her upbringing also added to it. Her mother used to give her a seven-course packed lunch for her school. It consisted of a sandwich, soup, apple, fruit roll-ups, peanut butter-filled crackers, Doritos, and Twinkies.
All this little Amanda used to carry in a grocery bag to school since it was too much to be taken in a brown paper bag. While Amanda was at her culinary school, it was said that the food should be made delicious. So she mastered in making creamy sauces and butter-filled cuisines. She only thought of the taste while making the food and never even considered about the caloric content of those foods.
Even while at work, Amanda Freitag has been on her feet for more than 12 hours a day for almost 20 years. She has been a chef at some of the best restaurants in New York. Though her lunches were not heavy, on reaching home she used to consume a very heavy dinner. It used to be usually two full bowls of pasta which was loaded with butter, Parmesan, garlic, and chili flakes. As a Judge on Food Network’s show ‘Chopped’, Amanda said that she is paid to eat.
In 2011, Amanda Freitag thought deeply about her weight and decided to do a makeover. She at that time was also contemplating opening a restaurant in Chelsea, New York very near her place of residence. However, it seemed to have not materialized. But she did manage to get her figure to shape. One of her friends spoke to her about a magazine which was looking out for busy but successful women for their get-fit feature. She knew that she lacked a lot on the health front. She could not hold a plank position for more than 5 seconds. She took this chance and the experiment led to an amazing change in her. She was put to the trainers and dietitians.
She enrolled for a gym and used t visit it 4 times a week. She was also given some simple exercises which she could do while she was traveling and on the go. She used to do workouts and also ceased eating the butter. To her surprise, she lost 11 pounds and seven inches in two and a half months. She also started a healthy food regime which included more proteins, lean meat and vegetables, and fruits. Talking about it, Amanda Freitag said:
“I had been trying to get fitness into my life for a long, long time without getting anything to stick. As a chef, it was hard to find one form of exercise that really fit into my life.”
“Going outside to jump rope seems awkward at first, but you just do it. You just go for a big, long walk in the city you’re in. Do something, anything, and you’ll stay on track.”
Amanda Freitag took to low-calorie snacking and only 3 bites for tasting. She used to have a Greek yogurt with fruit prior to the tasting of food on the show.
